About me
Hi! My name is Gemma. My journey into massage began following my own injury whilst training to be a dancer at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Unfortunately due to incorrect treatment I had to leave my degree, this is where my passion to learn about the human body began. I didn’t want anyone else to miss out like I did.
I have since become a fully qualified level 4 sports massage therapist, qualified member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and fully insured to practice.
I have completed my CIBTAC diploma in both anatomy, physiology and Swedish body massage. I went onto complete qualifications with VTCT in sports massage, anatomy and physiology, this training continues still as I work to complete the highest qualification available in the UK in sports massage.
I spent a year following the completion of my training working in a local NHS hospital within the therapy service team, supporting physiotherapists and occupational therapists in treating people following injury, illness and surgery.
I have now been the proud owner of Bespoke massage for the last 2 years.
I have learnt in those 2 years that I don’t like the term sports massage for the business I’ve made.
Why?.
Most of my clients are not involved in sports and ‘sports’ massage helps so many more people than sports people.
I treat pain, I treat discomfort and reduced mobility.
This presents itself in ALL people of ALL ages and ALL backgrounds.
Pain has many causes: illness, occupation, aging , parenting, accidents, posture, the wrong pillow or mattress, desk or chair height, being stationary for too long, stress, anxiety, driving, you get the idea….. AND sports.
When I set up Bespoke massage, the reason behind the name was that your treatment is bespoke to you, your cause, your age, your goal, your history, your commitment ability, a treatment plan for you - no one else is like you - it’s bespoke.
I want to relieve pain, give people freedom from their discomfort and I want to treat that acutely at first and then help you maintain that freedom. I don’t believe that people should have to ‘make do’, ‘get used to it’, or ‘put up with it’.
My technique isn’t just Sports or Swedish, Oncology, Fibrotherapy, for menopause or lymphatic drainage or any other technique I have learnt and trained in along the way it is a combination of all techniques put together to help bring you freedom from your pain and I love helping people achieve that and those people are not all sports people, in fact not many are.
Over the last 2 years I have worked with clients of all ages, shapes and sizes, with Arthritis, psoriatic Arthritis , Osteoporosis, Trigeminal neuralgia, Pre and Post joint replacement, Spinal surgery (Discectomy, Facetectomy), Sciatica, A Accidents old and new (RTA Ski ,Padel, horse riding, cycling, MMA), Cancer, Autoimmune illness and many more. BUT many, many more who have pain and discomfort just from daily life whether it be their occupation, family and home demands or stress and tension.
So whilst you will see my qualifications listed please
Know my aim is freedom, freedom from pain whatever your cause and if I don’t think I am the best person for your problem I have some
lovely people who I have already passed some of my clients on to. I just want you to do what you want, and need to do with less pain.
So whether its ‘dad back’, desk discomfort, time out from life, illness, accident or otherwise please know I am here and I want to help.
I am so excited to meet you and begin my journey as your therapist!
Gemma xx
